Pink Ribbon

a dear friend is doing a fund raising walk for cure of breast cancer..

6" x 6" pencil and watercolor on Ampersand CLAYBORD.

from her letter:

"Dear Donor,

Support Me

In-spi-ra-tion-al: to arouse the spirit to do something, by or as if by supernatural or devine influence

My Grandma Pat is my inspiration. Since I lost her three years ago to breast cancer, I have wanted to do something in her memory! It wasn't until I heard the old faithful story of David and Goliath at church that I realized the importance of letting GO and letting God. The word breast cancer stirs a fearful and scary feeling in me every time I hear it. I have learned that the moment of our greatest fear can be God's opportunity to do something amazing in our lives. I've decided to take that fear of cancer and work hard to raise money to put an end to it for good. Walking 30 miles for the Atlanta 2-Day will enable me to physically push myself where I have never been before. In order to accomplish this for my grandma Pat, I'm going to need your help. By the end of September, I will need to have raised $1000. Please make a donation and forward this email to any family or friends that can also help me reach my goal. Thank you in advance for your support!

APRONS on a line

Revisting
Nana's Aprons. theses ate my Nana Amy's aprons on a clothes line.. with a few favorite clothespins; each with a unique personality.

...I am reminded of a poem by
William Carlos Williams

so much depends
upon

a red wheel barrow
glazed with rain water
beside the white chickens.
..so much depends on the tilt of the clothes pins..the fall of the cloth....

Clothes pin bag

stages...

hmmm...kindalike the close cropped detail
might try some..

As the wind blows..

After yesterday's dress thinking how some dresses on hangers hang heavy-ish.
.remembering clothesline and how clothes
1.Hang in abstracted shapes
2.DANCE!!
3.the clothespins, to me, make tiny wings ;)
SO, today I thought i'd hang the long S.A. dress on the line. When i went to find my length of clothesline and olden clothespins, I found my Nana's aprons ( see http://dogwoodgallery.blogspot.com   Tuesday AUG 12th blogpost)
and the little clothespins bag/holder from my childhood-summers in Maine. It looks like a little girl's dress, but it sewn across the bottom to make it a bag...I hung it to hold the other pins.
BUT today it IS a little  girl's dress hanging beside a big girl's dress
... my sister is almost 10 years older than me. I rememberher going to dances and wearing trully Cinderella dresses!!
little girl, big girl
noticed how they were almost touching...and later "as the wind blows"..how they reached toward eachother.
here are some stages: seeing the space/shape between

and the the wind blew!!

Emily's dress

Emily's dress  8"x16"

What fun! 2 days ago I titled the white dress "Emily" because of Emily Dickinson and how she mostly wore white. SO, I Googled : [EMILY DICENSON DRESS]
I discovered a beautiful ballet of her poems and life:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT4CO41HmDo&feature=BFa&list=ULVMK_WKVO0nU&index=5

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNSoSLoJ-rM&feature=BFa&list=ULVMK_WKVO0nU&index=3

the images of her dress tho was always on a manquin all stuffed and stuffy. BUT, then i found from the front cover of a play bill
here is a bit of the play !! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_tLFLbazG0

I added the neck ribbon from the famous photo of Emily

after looking again at photo, amended ribbon

I am thinking she must have belted her dress around her tininess !!!!

Dress maker's ?? "dummy" ?

dummy on wheels  9" x 16"

liking drawing on wallpaper, using the pattern..

this time by painting "out" the background/negative space-surrounding the object

I used a bit of metallic silver paint..
I am playing!! yay

INTARSIA!

Wikipedia :  fields of different colours and materials appear to be inlaid in one another, but are in fact all separate pieces, fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. It is thought that the word 'intarsia' is derived from the Latin word 'interserere' which means "to insert". (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intarsia) for more history.

I well remember my Dad delighting in this woodworking tech.
SO, today I drew yesterday's dress on wallpaper and cut through 5 sheets.

what fun piecing them and redrawing each a little different.
Ashes of roses

Wedgewood
Autumn nosegay

Emily
Buttercup
they are ~8" x 14" mounted on foamcore..
..a friend is going to showme howto set up a BUY button.. so save your pennies and stay tuned.

P.S. will work on photo skills :<

? a dress a day??

....maybe not a diff dress each day,
because this was not a commission I found I was looser, freer ...
I want to bring same freedom to requested work..since the reason
people ask for your work is probably because the want it to look like what you do!

I found this dress at a Salvation Army.
There are 3 daughters of a friend that i cherish.
I had thoght I would love to paint each of them in this dress.
sister close and yet different from each other....that was 3 years ago!!
the dress is tiny, and they have each grown ...they were girls then, now they are young women.
maybe thedress would still fit??
